Begum Jaan Assamese Serial Banned For 2 months |
The Guwahati Police commissioner, in his order, conjured Section 19 of Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 which deals with "Power to prohibit transmission of certain programmes in the public interest.
The TV show 'Begum Jaan' is a weekly airing series - which follows the excursion of a Hindu young lady who battles against the general public with assistance from a Muslim man - has been involved in discussions since the time it was circulated in July this year.
The boycott is an aftereffect of a writ appeal which was recorded by a 'socio-social' association named United Trust of Assam at the Gauhati high court half a month back. The Commissioner of Police, Guwahati on August 25 educated the high court that "he has denied the broadcast of the sequential under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation Act) for a time of 60 days"
Complaints against 'Begum Jaan' had been registered by the right-wing Hindu Jagaran Mancha, All Assam Brahmin Youth Council, United Trust of Assam and an individual named Gunajit Adhikary.
